Bluecasting and QR Codes at Interact Event - A Successful Test
If you read the last post, you will recall that we were planning on experimenting with mobile marketing and QR codes to promote our own brand at Interact 2008 - a large Washington DC based Interactive conference. I’m happy to report that our experiment was a smashing success! Of course the audience - full of interactive marketing professionals - was perfect for experimenting with mobile marketing.
More than 1/3 of the total event attendees engaged with our mobile application.
For pictures of users engaging, scanning and learning can be found here:

A booth visitor experiments with our mobile application -- creating his own "on-demand" mash-up logo t-shirt

While the mashable logo mobile application was a hit — we were surprised by the number of people who did not know what a QR or 2D code could do — especially given the makup of the audience. We realized that while some in the industry might consider this an aging technology - the reality is that there is still time to get in the game by testing ane experimenting.

Looks cool.. Application into event based projects is definitely a great way to have interactive success. Application to taste makers not just Technophiles through events is a way to see how it will work in the real world.
Is there a low cost software or hardware device that is available to the consumer to be used on a larger scale?

Branding program… can you apply this strategically as a seed planting program through event producers over the country and world wide? thoughts? I have a few in mind.

Ben,
Can you expand on what type of events? I assume these are events with nice traffic/participation and sponsorships with nationally recognized brands, correct? Red Bull, Bass Ale, etc?

agreed.. totally… it would be really kind of neat if placement of these brands were not done in a traditional way of signs, banners, etc. If ONLY product placement and bluecasting were used it would really make a kool way of communicating brands. It would be completely clutter free without being in your face while communicating a brand effectively.
Taste makers are really brand sensitive… I have had negative feedback from events because logos and brands were much too in peoples face. Never-the-less taste makers would really appreciate receiving a brand if it communicated in an innovative way at an event. For example… not seeing one sign at a concert… yet I get blue casted a cool branded desktop to my blackberry or iphone… it tells me to show the desktop at a certain area at the concert. When I get to that area I am given a QR code t’shirt. This QR code t’shirt gets me access to the VIP after party to the concert… there the bands hang out in cool branded afterparty and amazing dj set by DJ whomever… It creates a totally interactive experience from the time I come to event to the late night… and it was all brought to you by XYZ company…
These specific brands love two things exclusivity and innovative interactive ways to be presented and communicated.

you should put this on subway cars and the internal advertisement on walls can match… might get a little annoying though

Clouds… can you use bluecasting system to tap into smart fones to see where the users have visited on their fone and see what products they might like… have that information go to a server group and then back to fone with products or information that might be useful to fone owner?
wow.. run on sentence.
